PORTEPEE & HANGER. Eickhorn produced more German army officer daggers during WWII than any other maker. This example was mfg between 1935-41 and carries the ORIGINAL / Squirrel / EICKHORN / SOLINGEN trademark that was utilized during this time frame on its polished blade. The fittings are silver plated with a type A crossguard and a 12 leaf pommel. Solid celluloid pumpkin grip. The silver plated scabbard has oak leaf bands with steel rings, stippled panels, and single screw fastened throat. It is accompanied with an aluminum bullion portepee and hanger with aluminum fasteners and buckles. CONDITION: overall fine. Blade is fine with some scabbard rubbing and crisp makers mark. Guard and pommel are fine with good silver plating exhibiting a balanced aged tarnish and scattered mild handling marks. Grips are fine with a couple of small dings and a minor chip. Portepee is good with some minor fraying. Scabbard is fine with nice plating showing a similar even aged tarnish. Hangers are fine with a little staining. (02-24965/ZAL). NON-GUN. $400-600.
