WWII FBI Crypto Cipher Machine Analyst Photograph
"WWII FBI Crypto Cipher Machine Analyst Photograph" Original and authentic World War II FBI Espionage Cipher Cryptoanalyst photo (10 x 12 cm/4 x 43/4 in.) cut out. This is a wartime Federal Bureau of Investigation Department of Justice produced photograph of a message being "cracked" by an FBI code and cipher analyst. The message is readable and is shown to be a very simple single substitution cipher - staged for the photograph. The message being decoded relates to a new type of two-man antitank rocket weapon. However, the truly interesting part of this photograph is the extremely rare cipher machine seen at the analyst's left hand side. Note the 24 two-sided sliding alphabet "sticks" held in a tray and retained by clear plastic covers. The photograph is blown up enough to show the letters on the sticks. In this case, the letters are in ascending order. The other side of the sticks would have the alphabet in descending order. The machine is propped up against a Spanish dictionary. The other books on the desk are interesting as well, including a copy of the Revised Edition of Ueda's Daijiten (a rather intense Japanese dictionary). The photograph is in excellent condition, with razor-sharp definition. There is some minor damage to the back of the photograph from when it was removed from an album. This is an outstanding addition to any WWII code and cipher machine collection. These machines are very rarely seen, and even more rarely seen in use in contemporary photographs. Seltenes authentisches FBI-Photo aus dem 2. Weltkrieg mit allen Details der professionellen Dechiffrierungsabteilung. - € 225/375 - (92/2)
