WWII Era Japanese Officer's Sword Shingunto, with arsenal stamp, signed and dated tang. The 26.25'' shinogi zukuri blade features a narrow suguha or straight temper line. Blade has been lightly sanded or scuffed overall, and has one very minor edge nick. No pitting. Fittings are typical of the mid war, 1941-43 pattern with a solid tsuba guard, silk cord wrapped handle and decorated fittings. Kashira or upper fitting of the handle is of a later war type usually found on the Type 44 shingunto officer's swords. (This may have been a field repair or replacement.) Silk cord wrapping on the handle shows soiling and age from use; fittings show wear and age. Scabbard paint is original and shows light scuffs and scrapes with about 95% paint remaining. Overall length is 38''. Est.: $600-$800.
