MILITARY RIFLE W/ BAYONET. Cal. 30-06. S# 8186. Bbl. 22". Adjustable aperture rear sight graduated to 1,000 meters. Blade front sight w/ protective ears. Bayonet lug is present. Receiver markings include “JOHNSON AUTOMATICS” “MODEL OF 1941” “CAL 30-06” “SEMI-AUTO” “MADE IN PROVIDENCE, R.I. U.S.A.” & patent information. Receiver marked on right rear w/ “CRANSTON ARMS” in inverted triangle & tiny “star” which is the Dutch acceptance mark. S#s are not matching as this was not done at the time of mfg. These rifles were made under contract for the Netherlands but many were undeliverable; they were taken over & used by the U.S. Marine Corps & the U.S. Army First Special Service Force as well as other organizations. The bbl. is marked over chamber “J.A.” & “30-06”. Marked underneath w/ “Dutch dagger” acceptance mark. S#s match on bbl. extension & bbl. 2 piece walnut stock set. Stock has fine checkered buttplate. Rifle equipped w/ Model 1907 sling marked “MILSCO” & “1943”. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: correct 8” triangular spike bayonet. S# on muzzle ring “1489”. Unmarked tan leather scabbard. Bayonet has lg. degree of arsenal rework dark Parkerized finish. Scabbard has light wear & staining, stitching is tight. CONDITION: stock set has light wear & scattered light handling marks w/ added coat of glossy finish over several small filled areas. Metal has 75% original Parkerized finish w/ thinning & light wear. Very good shiny bore w/ sharp lands. PROVENANCE: Consignor states acquired from noted firearms authority & author Scott Duff and was reputed to have been in the Bruce Canfield collection.
