This Volksturm K98 (made for the Home Guard) rifle has no chamber markings. The left rear of the barrel has several markings including the serial number over a small "MR" upside-down, "8", "57 S" over "Seeber" followed by an "eagle/N" proofmark, a shield and "1144"(11-44 is the date of the test firing), with a faint "43" and circled "P" on top and an "A" and burst on the right side. The floor plate and attaching iron are marked "byf" with two "eagle/135" proofs on the attaching iron. No other parts are serialized. Milled barrel bands and stamped trigger guard and floor plate, hooded front blade sight and tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. Mounted with a one piece pistol grip stock and matching hand guard with cupped buttplate and "eagle/H" stamp on the right rear. Complete with a slotted cleaning rod, brown leather sling and "43fnj" coded bayonet with smooth wooden handle and matching (3461w) metal scabbard.

Condition: Very fine as arsenal refurbished with 95% of the blue finish remaining. There is some minor pitting under the finish on the chamber and thinning on each side of the barrel below the rear sight. The stock is also very fine with a few minor dings and handling marks. The sling is good with some wear. The scabbard is good with a flat finish and some minor spotting. The bayonet is fine with some light spotting on the handle hardware. Clear markings. The action is fine.
