This is a nice correct example of an early WWI Model 1911 pistol manufactured by Springfield Armory in 1915. The right side of the slide has the traditional Springfield eagle and shield located behind the ejection port and is marked "MODEL OF 1911.U.S.ARMY." in front of the ejection port. The opposite side of the slide is marked "PATENTED APR.20,1897 / SEPT.9, 1902. DEC.19,1905.FEB.14, 1911 / COLT'S PT. F.A.MFG.CO" in one block followed by "SPRINGFIELD ARMORY / U.S.A.". The Ordnance Corps shell and flame insignia is located behind the slide serrations and above the magazine release. The left front side of the frame is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" and the right side has only the serial number, "No 118912" behind the slide stop hole. Blue barrel, standard fixed sights, smooth trigger, checkered slide stop, thumb safety and hammer spur, lanyard loop on the heel, Springfield magazine with the distinctive folded bottom and lanyard loop on the bottom and fitted with checkered walnut grips with the large diamond pattern around the screws.
