Luftwaffe General Kurt Student Letter. Luftwaffe General Kurt Student was the commander of the Fallschirmjager (paratrooper) units in the Luftwaffe. He led the Fallschirmjager through the Battle of Rotterdam, the Invasion of Crete, the Allied invasion of Italy, the Normandy landings and breakout. The Fallschirmjager were elite troops that were held in high regard throughout the war. Student was awarded the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves for his planning and actions in the daring raid to free Benito Mussolini. After the war, he was sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment. Signature is clear and legible at bottom of letter, lettering is slightly faded. Letter is dated December 19, 1965 and is slightly yellowed from age, no damage. Good condition. From the Michael Clifton collection.
