WWI Mauser Gew 98 Bolt Action Sniper Rifle with Scope and Case
A solid example of a German Gew98 rifle with a Emil Busch scope mounted on a unique single claw and post style mounting system. The top of the scope is marked ""EMIL BUSCH A.-G. / RATHENOW / VISAR" 2 3/4x / 6027". The 6027 is restamped after the old number was removed. The front scope base covers the front receiver marking, the left side is marked with the Imperial Eagle and the serial number, the right side is marked with three crown over script letter proofs, the left side receiver wall is marked "Gew. 98." and the breech end of the barrel is marked with the serial number on the left and the letter "S" on top directly behind the rear sight. Raised ramp front sight and ski slope style tangent rear sight with graduation markings 4 to 20 (even numbers) on each side and 5 to 20 on top. The floor plate and attaching iron, and front barrel band have been renumbered to match, otherwise the visible numbers match. Mounted with a pistol grip stock and matching handguard with a flat iron buttplate and blank unit disk. Complete with a black leather scope case with shoulder strap.
BBL: 29 1/2 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 8 mm
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 6027x
Condition: Very good as partially restored. The barrel retains 40% faded original finish with some thinning and minor pitting. The receiver has been cleaned and remains bright with a small amount of minor pitting. The renumbered to match scope is very good, the finish is thinning to gray and the optics are just a bit hazy. The re-oiled stock is good with a few small filled repairs and overall minor dents, dings and scratches. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is fine. The scope case is very good with some mild cracking, scuffing that has been covered with shoe polish and tight stitching.
