WWI KAR 98 Erfurt Bolt Action Carbine with Original Rare Breech Dust/Trench Cover
This is a WWI production (short rifle) carbine as manufactured by the Erfurt Arsenal. The top of the receiver ring is marked "crown / ERFURT / 1918", The right side is marked with three imperial arsenal acceptance proofs and the left side is marked with the serial number and Imperial eagle. The left side wall is marked "Kar 98.". All visible numbers match. Shrouded front sight and tangent rear sight graduated to 200 meters. Mounted with a full length pistol grip stock and hand guard with Imperial proof marks and the letter "B" on the right side buttstock and proofs on the wrist. Complete with a cross hatch sling and dust cover on the bolt.

Condition: Very fine. The rifle retains 75% faded original finish with some muzzle wear, areas of smooth brown on the front barrel band and thinning on the bolt handle and rear barrel band. The dust cover has a dark patina with strong traces of original blue finish. The stock is very fine with a few moderate, sharp dents on the right side in the forearm area and overall a few scattered minor dents and dings. Markings on the stock are excellent. The sling is good. The markings are highlighted in white and remain clear. The action is excellent. One does not find these with matching numbers, let alone the very fine condition and unique dust cover.
