This is an original WWI German Model 24 hand grenade. Also known as a "Potato Masher", this is one of the most recognizable infantry weapons of 20th Century warfare. The explosive head is marked "Vor Gebrauch Sprengkapsel einsetzen G.J.B.". The handle is marked "5 1/2 SEK.-AEG 28.S.17". The WWI German hand grenade is in good overall condition. The grenade is inert and contains no explosive components or fuse. The grenade measures 2.5" in diameter and is 13.75" long.
