This is a WWI German M1898 Mauser bayonet with scabbard and frog. This is prize of war taken by an American soldier when he returned home from war. This bayonet is marked "Waffenfabrik Mauser A.G. Oberndorf a N" on the blade. The spine of the blade is marked "W" over "16" and is also stamped with a crown. The scabbard is marked "Waffenfabrik Mauser A.G. Oberndorf a N". The bayonet and scabbard both have serial numbers that do not match. The bayonet serial number is 2781 and the scabbard serial number is 4894. The frog is made from leather and is marked "Oberndorf 1916". The bayonet, scabbard, and frog are in good condition. The scabbard does show minor dents and the frog shows damage the to the leather as pictured. The bayonet measures 19.75" long with a 14.5" blade.

This is a legal agreement between you, the user or buyer, and North American Auction Company. You must be at least 18 years old to bid. North American Auction Company. All sales are made on an AS IS - WHERE IS WITH ALL FAULTS basis. All buyers are urged to physically inspect the item during the inspection period. No bids can be withdrawn after the auction for any reason. In the event of legal proceedings arising from this contract or from the auction in connection therewith, buyer consents to being subject to the personal jurisdiction of the courts of the State of Montana. Buyer also agrees that venue shall be in Gallatin County, Montana and that the laws of the State of Montana shall govern this Agreement and the parties' transaction hereunder. The BUYER expressly agrees to indemnify and save the Auction Co., Seller and their assigns harmless from and against all claims, losses, expenses, damage or liability, (including, but not limited to, attorney's fees), directly or indirectly caused by or resulting from Buyer's negligent acts or omissions or breach of this agreement, except for damages caused by or resulting from the Auction Co.'s sole negligence. All items must be paid for prior to removal; if storage arrangements are not made in advance of bidding on items. Storage will start March 22th 2015 and will be charged $10 per day per item. If there is a dispute on the authenticity of an item, the only professional opinion that will be considered is from a curator of a well-known museum.
