This is a very nice example of an original WWI 1917 DWM Artillery Luger rig that is complete with one matching magazine, an original WWI walnut board stock, holster and stock boot. These pistols have a rust blued finish with straw colored small parts. The top of the chamber is dated 1917 with the "DWM" monogram on the front toggle. The right side of the chamber has the three "crown/ gothic letter" proofs next to the Imperial Eagle firing proof, which is repeated on the barrel. It has the full serial number on the front of the frame, left side of the barrel extension and underside of the barrel with the last two digits of the serial number on the various small parts. The extractor and safety are correctly marked; "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" and it has the standard front sight with the artillery, style tangent rear sight that is graduated from 1-8 (100-800) meter. The luger is complete with a nickel plated magazine with wood base correctly numbered to the gun. This lot is complete with an original brown leather artillery holster (now dyed black) that has a partial makers mark of "M. LIEMANN/BERLIN/1917" on the very lower front flap edge along with an original artillery board stock with an original attaching iron numbered (6635 l) and black leather boot strap, and later pattern brass cleaning rod with the blued metal handle with the oiler inside the handle.
BBL: 8 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue/straw
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 9173k
Condition: Very fine as partially refinished with 85% of the faded original blued finish overall with wear and blue loss on the edges and high spots overall with some light thinning on the front edges of the frame rails, the front and rear grip straps, the muzzle area and the underside of the barrel. The left top frame has been modified at the juncture with the side plate. The grip panels are both in very good condition plus with nice original checkering on both sides with minor wear across the tops of the checkering and the rear edge probably just from actual field use. The various small parts retain 40% of their refinished straw colors overall. The Luger pistol has all matching numbers except the grips which are unnumbered. The holster is also in very good condition with nice tight stitching overall with a nice even black color with the flap showing considerable age cracking but no tears or rips. The stock has the usual minor light pressure dents and scratches from field use, with the attaching iron retaining 80% of it's original blue finish. The front edge of the wood base of the magazine has been filed away however the full serial number "9173" is still clearly visible on the base itself.
