21" x 17-1/2" in frame, actual picture is 10" x 15". This is a lovely image by James Ross Bryson featuring a sad eyed, hauntingly beautiful Art Nouveau maiden draped in an American flag. The hardships endured during WWI make this stoic yet determined beautiful maiden really resonate. This image is mesmerizing as this was not a time for celebration, but a time for reflection. This girl is the antithesis of the WWII Victory Girl, and this is a powerful tribute to the WWI era. J. Ross Bryson was a well known early 1900s calendar artist who worked for The Thos. D. Murphy Calendar Company among other firms. He had numerous variations of what was known as "The Bryson Girl", and his ladies were very risque and provocative for the time. This lithograph was printed by the Parker - Brawner Litho Co. of Washington, D.C. and is No. 498A. On the back of the print is an advertisement for Beautiful Dry Cleaning. We believe this was the top of a calendar as there is a tiny hole at the very top of the picture, but we are not certain. This is in excellent condition, with the only damage being a small tear on the bottom, there is no paper missing though.
