This is a very fair example of a mid-WWI Imperial German Luger as manufactured in 1916. These lugers produced during this time frame saw a huge amount of service use in the trenches and to find a nice one like this, is getting more difficult all the time. This pistol has a rust blued finish with the straw colored small parts with checkered walnut grips. The top of the chamber area is dated 1916 and the front toggle is marked "DWM", for Deutsch Waffen Und Munitions factory. The right side of the barrel extension has the "three Crown/Script" proofs next to the Imperial Eagle proof, which is also stamped on the top rear section of the barrel. The safety and extractor are correctly marked "Gesichert" and "Geladen" and it has the fixed front and notch rear sight with the stock lug on the back strap. The magazine is current commercial replacement that has an blued magazine body with an unmarked black plastic base.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue/straw color
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 7627n
Condition: Very fine with 80% of the original blued finish overall with wear and blue loss on the edges and high spots overall, with the grip straps and stock lug area just starting to show some thinning of the blue finish. The various small parts retain 40% of their straw colors. The left side of the muzzle/front sight base barrel band, shows a small area of light pitting, probably from sitting in a holster over the years. The grips are in fine condition with exception of a chip under the safety lever, nice distinct checkering on both sides, showing even honest wear across the tops of the checkering probably from actual use over the years. This Luger has all matching numbers except the magazine as noted above and the right grip which is unnumbered, but matches the other grip in color and condition very well. A very nice example of mid-WWI Imperial German luger pistol.
