WW II Douglas Aircraft Company Camouflage Project Photos An original archive of about 60+ different black and white photos from the Estate of Edward Huntsman-Trout, as assembled by Stephen Dane. The background on the exhibit is as follows: "In 1943 Edward Huntsman-Trout, a landscape architect was commissioned to camouflage the Douglas Aircraft Company plant in Santa Monica, California, which was engaged in the manufacture of C-47 transports and A-20 attack bombers for the American war effort. A residential neighborhood was created out of burlap supported in most places by a tension/compression structure to cover the entire plant and runway. Adjacent to the camouflaged plant, a burlap "dummy" plant was erected. The camouflage project was dismantled before the end of the second world war. The photos, ranging in size from 3.5x5" to 11x14", not only depict the finished project, but how it was made and put together. Several have "SECRET" handstamps and are designed for stereoscope viewing. A unique and fascinating part of WW II history. Ex: the Santa Monica Museum of Flying collection. Estimate: $ 2,500 - 3,500
