(1871 - 1948) American inventor and a pioneer of flight, Wright, with his brother Wilbur, made the first succesful flight of a motor-driven airplane. D.S. "Orville Wright" on the verso of an International Civil Aeronautics Conference Member's Card, measuring 4 " x 2 1/2" Washington, 1928 issued to Dr. W. P. MacCracken, Jr. (1888 - 1969), the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Aviation. MacCraken was one of the more important figures in the history of commercial aviation who promoted and assembled the first airline system in the continental U.S. and was the first government official to regulate commercial aviation during the 1920s. Offered with other ephemera related to McCrakcen including his U.S. Government Transportation Card, his private pilot's license, his membership cards for the Order of Deadalians and the Society of Airway Pioneers; his certificate for the Collier Trophy; as well as a button for the official welcoming committee for the return of Charles Lindbergh to America after his historic solo flight from New York to Paris. The material bears very light soiling, but is in overall very good condition. Eight pieces.
