(WOUNDED 11TH CONN. VOL. PRIVATE)
Nice ruby-red 1/6th plate ambrotype of Private Amos E. Bailey 11th Conn. Vol. Co. C and wife. The image was uncovered in central Connecticut with an old tag behind the image that reads: "Amos E. Bailey and Elizabeth (Hardman) Bailey grandparents." Bailey is not in uniform and most likely the image was taken after he enlisted but before he left for the war since a tax stamp on verso is dated Aug. 1864. He was wounded at Broadway Landing, Virginia on November 10, 1864, and served until the summer of 1865. Image is housed on a half papier-mâché case, with a brass frame, preserver, and glass. Minor solarization affects the man's pants, else good to very good.
