(WORLD WAR II PHOTOGRAPHS)
1035. WORLD WAR II PHOTOGRAPHS A group of nineteen photographs taken by a U.S. soldier in Germany from late 1944 through early 1945. Most of the black and white photos measure 4" x 5" with a few slightly smaller, showing various images of the destruction wrought on Germany during the war, including bombed out buildings, abandoned artillery and tanks and the like. There are a couple disturbing images of various atrocities, including one image showing a dead German woman in a ditch who had obviously been raped (likely by the Soviets). One the verso the soldier wrote: "What appears to me-strictly a molesting and rape job. Notice that her pants were taken off. Also her both breasts were `sliced off' (the left one still on but flipped back)". Another shot shows what is described on the verso as "Russian-Girl, Officer in Army - looks beaten to death. Rank: 1st. Lt.". With a pair of images that were found by the photographer during his travels including an image of an older man seated in front of a picture of Hitler and the Nazi flag, and an image dated 1914/15 showing four German infantrymen in spiked helmets ready to head for the front. Nineteen pieces, many bear light creases and the occasional tear, otherwise very good. $100-150
