WORLD WAR I U.S. AERONAUT’S GROUP. Group is attributed to 1st Lt. Joseph Gaius Halsey of the 69th Balloon Company and later commanding officer of that Company. It is comprised of a French-made tunic with tailor’s label named to Halsey, with U.S. and French-style Air Service collar devices, 3-1/4” bullion-embroidered spherical balloon pilot’s wing, lieutenant’s bars, felt on felt 4th Corps shoulder patch, bullion overseas stripe, dog tags named to Lt. Halsey, wool military jerkin, leather Sam Browne belt with sword hanger, leather puttees, leather issue map case with attached compass, leather aviator’s helmet, leather mask with goggles, 1919 hardbound unit history The Balloon Section of the American Expeditionary Forces, featuring Lt. Halsey on page 39. Very rare offering as there were few spherical balloon pilots in the AEF. CONDITION: Tunic has light scattered mothing, but is in very good condition.
