Transylvania [Holy Roman Empire], Johann Baptista Castaldo (1493-c.1562), Imperial General to the Emperor Charles V, Governor and Count of Piadena and Cassano, Cast Bronze Portrait Medal, c.1552, by Annibale, bust left with long and pointed beard, in decorative armour, signed ANIB below truncation, rev naked figure of Transylvania reclines by trophy of Turkish arms, and the River God of the Mures, TRANSILVANIA CAPTA, beaded borders, 44mm (Att 103; Arm I, 175, 1; Pollard Bargello III, 730; Resch 4; Humphris 56). On a thin flan, neat small piercing at top (7 o’clock on reverse), good very fine and very rare.
