WOODROW WILSON: (1856 - 1924) Twenty-eighth President of the United States who passed sweeping reform laws, gave women the right to vote, and led the United States through World War I setting the ground work for the League of Nations. Rare, poignant T.L.S. "Father" as President on White House letterhead, 2pp. 8vo., Washington, Aug. 25, 1918 to "My dear Little Girl", likely Eleanor Wilson, his closest daughter. Undoubtedly typing the letter himself, with a few typographical mistakes, the doting father passes on his news. In part: "...Make all the arrangements for going to France, for I have decided...not to consult the French authorities beforehand, but merely to express our wishes to them at the time you go...as to the way in which you are to be treated. They will in any case assent. My only fear at any time was that they would feel obliged to do a good deal anyhow. That we cannot deal with now. So go ahead, my dear. We are all well and things run along in the usual grooves. Our littlli [sic] outing to Massachusetts refreshed both our bodies and our spirits...Our hearts follow you constantly, for we love you as much as your own heart could wish. Jessie [Wilson's second daughter] writes that she is expecting Frank [her husband] back in about three weeks...the sad journey she had to take - of Mrs. Sayre's [her mother in law] sudden death and the journey with her body...I cannot help fearing that it all tells on her...remember always how dear you are to us and how we miss you every day you are away!...". Light soiling with a toned spot in margin of first page, else very good. $600-800
