WOODROW WILSON: (1856 - 1924) Twenty-eighth President of the United States who passed sweeping reform laws, gave women the right to vote, and led the United States through World War I setting the ground work for the League of Nations. Rare, poignant T.L.S. "Father" on his personal letterhead, 1p. 4to., Washington, Dec. 18, 1922 to "My darling Girlie", likely Eleanor Wilson, his closest daughter. Undoubtedly typing the letter himself, Wilson pours his heart out as Christmas nears. In part: "...Please apply the enclosed to any Christmas object you prefer. My course would be something for yourself. I need not tell you with what love the gift is freighted...I am getting on about as usual except that today, which is the anniversary of our wedding, I am especially stimulated by memories of the delightful years of my intimate association with Edith [Bolling Wilson] for whom my admiration and love constantly increase. In spite of breakdown and political persecution I realize that I am the most fortunate man in the world..." Near fine, and of course rare in this form! $1,000-1,500
