WONDERFUL 19TH C. PLAINS INDIAN PIPE BAG
WONDERFUL 19TH C. PLAINS INDIAN PIPE BAG. An absolutely beautiful pipe bag, this item is sewn with a mix of sinew and coarse thread. Size: 26” x 8-1/4”. The upper edge of the bag was decorated with beads, rolled in and stitched to provide a sturdy lip that doesn’t collapse. Both sides of the bag are decorated similarly, with a bold geometric pattern of red, white, and blue beads fully covering about70% of the bag. An area at the top on both sides is left blank, except for a wave design of gold and blue beads. Four inches of the fringe at the bottom of the bag is wrapped with dyed porcupine quills of red, white, blue and gold in a diamond-shaped design. Two narrower, longer 8-9”) pieces of fringe are attached to each of the quill-wrapped fringes. CONDITION: Very good, overall. There are minor losses of beading, some losses of quill-work on the fringe, and some losses of the finer long fringe. In total, though, this pipe bag is wonderfully attractive, and the wear is consistent with careful use. 4-50138 SO26
