WOLCOTT, JR., OLIVER
(1760 - 1833) American Revolution soldier and patriot, Secretary of the Treasury succeeding Hamilton. Good association manuscript L.S., 1p. 4to., Treasury Dept., Washington, Dec. 2, 1795 to Signer of the Declaration of Independence WILLIAM ELLERY (1727-1820), in part: "...I have to request, that you will retain sufficient funds in your hands to discharge the allowances to Fishing Vessels…you will immediately furnish me with an estimate of the sum which will be required… ". Ellery dockets the document on the verso: "Secry's Letter requesting a refer'd[?] of money to pay the allowances to fishing vessels, and to transmit an estimate of what will be necessary for that purpose. Dated Dec. 2nd rec'd Dec'r 17th, 1795". Two tape repairs to verso very lightly shows through, some slight edge wear, overall very good.
