Mexican War army officer whose role in the War of 1812 made him a national hero. Appointed lieutenant general by Congress in 1852, he resigned his office in 1861 in favor of a younger man to lead the Union Army. Attractive partly printed DS, a bank check with eagle and shield motif drawn on the Bank of the United States, NY, Apr 7, 1830. Completed in his hand and made payable to himself, “<i>W. Scott,</i>” in the amount of $150, thus signing twice. Boldly signed in full. Slit cancellation and spindle puncture slightly affect both signatures; mounting residue on verso; o/w VG.</span></p>
