WINCHESTER 2ND MODEL 1866 LEVER-ACTION RIFLE
WINCHESTER 2ND MODEL 1866 LEVER-ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 44 RF Henry. Standard rifle with 24-1/4” oct bbl, full magazine, pinched blade front sight with 900 yard Henry-style ladder rear sight. The top flat has the Henry and King Patent markings. It has nicely figured wood with straight stock and crescent brass butt plate with trap and factory sling loops. The trap contains a 4-piece iron and brass wiping rod. The serial number is under the wood on the left side of the lower tang and is stamped inside the top tang channel on the butt stock and again inside the toe of the buttplate. From the Kenneth J. Warren Estate. SN 19564. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains 30-40% original blue in the sheltered areas on bbl with the balance a fine, smooth plum patina with only minor edge wear. The magazine tube retains about 60% original blue with the balance turning brown. The receiver shows moderate edge wear with a wonderful dark patina and has minor handling and use marks with a series of tiny dents below the loading gate. The hammer and lever have a smooth brown patina. The stock has a replaced chunk at the toe, otherwise the wood is sound and retains a fine, dark hand-rubbed patina with handling and use nicks and dings with a couple of bruises on the forearm and small gouges on the side. The buttplate trap cover is a clever German silver replacement. Bright shiny bore with scattered pitting. 4-50078
