WILLIAM PEPPERELL (1696-1759) General; commanded American forces, co-operating with the British, in capture of French fortress Louisburg (1745); raised regiment to serve in French & Indian War; first native born American to be created Baronet (1746). ALS, "Wm Pepperell", as Justice of the Peace, 1p, Feb 24, 1719, 8vo, Kittery (Maine), to the sheriff, an arrest warrant. Reads in part, "...require you & in his Majesties name that immediately upon sight...bring Joseph Gunison...before me, at my Dwelling house...To Answer to Such Matters of Misdemeanor, as on his Majesties behalfe...complaint of Andrew Poore, who alledges...Gunison Unlegally Take and Detaine from him a paper of one Instrument of agreement..."
