WILLIAM OSLER AUTOGRAPHED PRESCRIPTIONS. Five prescriptions from William Osler, one on printed Rx form. All initialed "W.O." 3 have faint date stamps, 1 from Apr. 1900, the others from Mar. 1902. Moderate toning, some are folded, 3 have holes punched for inclusion in binder. A couple have edge scuffing, one with some paper loss. All are framed and matted under glass; not removed from frame for examination. William Osler was one of the founders of Johns Hopkins Hospital and Medical School. His accomplishments were so numerous, that they are still being elucidated today. The prescriptions here are interesting in themselves. For example, one is for Amyl nitrite capsules, "Break one in handkerchief and inhale." Besides being a great teacher, Osler is also known as having been Walt Whitman's physician. Reportedly the latter hated the former's inveterate cheerfulness, while the former had little respect for the latter's poetry.
