<b>227. WILLIAM MCKINLEY</b> A.D.S. 2pp. Folio, Canton, Ohio, Mar. 25, 1873, signed twice with McKinley's name appearing a third time on the second page, a legal document in a suit of James A. Saxton, father-in-law of McKinley, v. E. Ball & Co. The company had given Saxton a promissory note of $3,000, payable with interest at 7%, but never made good. The note is dated from Nov. 14, 1870. On the first page, the document is signed "<i>W & A McKinley, Attys for plff</i>". Abner McKinley was the brother and partner of William's, who was at this time a young lawyer practicing in Canton. McKinley's signature appears on the second page, and his name also appears on the first line of an oath in which he states that the facts about the promissory note were correct. Originally notarized by Abner McKinley, but his signature as notary has been scratched out. Usual folds, very light soiling, one small tape repair along horizontal fold on verso, otherwise very good.<b>$300-400</b>
