Confederate major general, one of Lee’s most trusted; distinguished during the siege of Petersburg and in retreat to Appomattox. AQS on his monogrammed letterhead, 1p, 4to. In full, “<i>An honest, courageous and unselfish maintenance of the right, as conscientiously believed, in respect to public matters, is patriotism</i>.” Boldly penned and signed adding “<i>10 June 1891 Petersburg Va</i>.” Expertly inlaid; left edge evidences removal from binding; o/w Fine. Postwar Mahone returned to his former occupation as president of the Atlantic Mississippi & Ohio Railroad and served as senator from Virginia (1880-87). Like Longstreet before him, he switched party affiliation from Democrat to Republican.</span></p>

of West Virginia by Gil Griggs, Licensee of Charleston, W. V. License

2. Absentee bid closing date is April 5th, 2002, 10:00 PM EST.
3. There is a 15% Buyer’s Premium charged on the final hammer price
of each lot. An additional 2½% Premium will be added to any lots
purchased through ebayliveauctions.com.
4. The Auctioneer reserves the right to reject any bid for any
reason.

providing that it comes back in the same condition. There is a
