<td width="100%">
William IV armorial sterling silver tea pot. Made London, England 1832 by William Hall.
Measures 6 inches high; 11 1/2inches accross. Weighs 23oz.
Slightly compressed, lobed, globular shape. Each fluted lobe (except the front one) has a repousse inverted foliate enclosure with repousse flowers above, below and within. The background
is hand hammered for further textural effect. The front lobe contains a finely engraved coat-of-arms. Beneath the word THROUGH, a tree emerges from a castle/crown. The tree is crossed by a sword.
The lid has a 5-part hinge, in good condition. It is domed with a ring of overlapping, repousse leaves crowned by a beautiful removable flower finial.
The rim of the teapot beneath the lid is beautifully and unusually designed with flat rings of fans, shells and foliage.
The tightly arching, scrolling handle has an applied acanthus leaf on the top and chased leaves along most of it's length. This is echoed by the leaves on the spout. The bottom of the spout has beautifully chased flowers. The insulation rings on the handle appear to be replacements. The handle needs a little tightening if it is to be used for pouring tea.
Hallmarks: lid: lion passant, date mark r and maker's mark WH. Bottom of tea pot has lion, leopard, date (r), maker (WH), king's head in profile, facing right.
Condition: very good, especially considering the age.
