Impressive William Taft Archive of Nine Autograph Letters
WILLIAM HOWARD TAFT (1857-1930). 27th President of the United States (1909-1913), later the Tenth Chief Justice of the United States, the Only Person to have served in Both Offices.
Archive Lot of Nine William Taft Handwritten Autograph Letters Dated between 1895-1900, and Signed, “Wm. H. Taft” and “W.H.T.” as President, average grade of Extremely Fine. This impressive Archive includes:

Six (6) Letters written upon offical “United States Circuit Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, Judge’s Chambers, Cincinnati” letterhead.

Three (3) Letters written upon various stationery, including: “The Shoreham / John T. Devine” printed stationery.

All Nine (9) Letters are nicely Handwritten in bold rich black ink, being sent to Taft’s colleague, the Honorable George Leonard, Esq. These Letters ranging in size from 8” x 10” to 5” x 8” and of various dates ranging from 1895-1900. Some with trivial tone. Seven (7) of these Letters also include their original Handwritten Transmittal Envelopes.

On March 21, 1892, President Harrison appointed William Howard Taft to the U.S. Circuit Court for the Sixth Judicial Circuit, which included the federal districts of Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky and Tennessee. In March of 1893, Taft succeeded to senior U.S. Circuit Court Judge of the Sixth Circuit. Taft also served as Professor of Law of Real Property and Dean of the Cincinnati Law School from 1896-1900. He was the only President who actually taught law before his term in office. An outstanding, valuable and highly useful Archive of Nine ALS, Seven with their Transmittal Envelopes.
