William Claude Harper (American, 1944 - ) “Small Boogie Baby” 1979, from his Egyptian-themed series. His work has been collected and exhibited by The Metropolitan Museum, Smithsonian Museum of American Art, and the Museum of Modern Art. This art-jewelry brooch is composed of gold, sterling silver, bronze(?), cloisonné enamel, pearls, and a bezel-set, what appears to be, a red-brown Scarab Beetle (Aphodius militaris). Reversed is marked “Small Boogie Baby William Harper 1979”. The brooch measures 78mm in length, 45mm wide, weighs 24.1 grams, and is in very good condition. A Harper piece from the same series can be found in the Philadelphia Museum of Art titled Pagan Baby #10: Orange Scarab. This lot has a reserve
