WILLIAM ELLERY
(1727 - 1820) Signer of the Declaration of Independence. Ellery was a prominent Rhode Island lawyer who represented the state in the Continental Congress and in the proceedings leading the signing of the Declaration of Independence. A.D.S. 1p. oblong 8vo., Newport, 5 August 1771, a recept for 27 shillings, "Fifteen Shillings of which was for the Sheriffs Tres for ye Service of Two With Mary Cory against John Lawton and the remaining Twelve Shillings for my Cost therein.". Some marginal wear and light soiling, else very good.
