William Eggleston was commissioned by the First National Bank of Tennessee in 1984 to produce a body of photographs to commemorate an anniversary of the bank. This body of work was comprised of 10 dye transfer prints, all photographed in Tennessee, Eggleston's native state, and has come to be known as the "Homecoming Project." The series was completed in 1985 and was installed in the bank's headquarters in Memphis, where it is still believed to reside. The only other complete group known to be extant at the time of this writing is in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Museum, Washington, D.C.
