Instead of the polychromatic palette utilized in most of William Eggleston's work, here we see a more subtle celebration of color, which evokes sensations beyond simple eye appeal. This kitchen sink, bathed in the southern sun, offers a sense of calm and evokes the promise of a quiet morning. The monochromatic composition forces the viewer to appreciate the beauty of slight color differentiations. The streaming sun changes whites to yellows and even transforms a blue hand towel into a warm-toned object. Without the warmth of the incoming light, the kitchen would be a sterile, unwelcoming environment, with its stark décor and undefined space. Yet that is part of Eggleston's genius, to awaken the eye to the magic of everyday life.
