WILLIAM C. GRAUER (American, 1896 - 1985) LANDSCAPE WITH HORSES
Oil on canvas Housed in a modern gilt wood frame Signed lower right "Wm. C. Grauer" While born in Philadelphia, William Grauer moved to Cleveland in 1927 and is most often associated with the “Cleveland School” of painting. Grauer was in fact one of the founders of the Cleveland College of Art at Western Reserve University. In 1932 he traveled to White Sulpher Springs, West Virginia, where he created murals for the President’s Cottage, a summer white house visited by more than twenty-five presidents. While there he also ran the Old White Art Colony School and gallery. As seen in the painting on offer, his style has both Regionalist and Modernist elements, which results in a composition of both historical and art historical interest. SIZE: 25" x 30". Overall: 28" x 32-3/4". CONDITION: Very good. 9-29097
