American naval officer imprisoned after the loss of the <i>USS Philadelphia</i> to Barbary pirates at Tripoli. He later commanded the <i>USS Constitution</i> in capture of the British frigate <i>HMS Java</i> in the War of 1812. Boldly penned clipped signature, 3¼”x2”. Laid to heavier stock. Fine. Also included is a military broadside from the US War Department, 1p, 4to, [Washington, DC], ca. 1825. Regarding “<i>Section of Bounty Lands,</i>” determining legitimate heirs of soldiers “<i>slain by the enemy, orotherwise died.</i>..” and the allocation of bounty land grants. Weak horizontal folds; o/w VG. Very nice.</span></p>

Internet Live Bid Auction and is conducted under the laws of the State
of West Virginia by Gil Griggs, Licensee of Charleston, W. V. License
No. 002.
2. Absentee bid closing date is April 5th, 2002, 10:00 PM EST.
3. There is a 15% Buyer’s Premium charged on the final hammer price
of each lot. An additional 2½% Premium will be added to any lots
purchased through ebayliveauctions.com.
4. The Auctioneer reserves the right to reject any bid for any
reason.

6. In the event of duplicate high bids, the earliest bid received
