(WILEY POST`S FLIGHT JACKET)
(1899 - 1935) American aviator who, with Harold Gatty, became the first flier to circle the world. A fine Post relic: a leather flight jacket once owned by Post! The leather jacket, waist length with faux fur lining on the interior and over color, was originally given by Post of Josef Schmidt, a machinist and old friend of Post. The two were introduced through a mutual friend, the choreographer, Busbee Burklee. Due to their common interest in mechanics (and fishing), Post and Schmidt became fast friends. Post gave the jacket to Schmidt on a fishing trip in Pleasant Lake, N.H., after Schmidt repeatedly complained about the cold. Before departing, Post offered his jacket adding: "If you are determined to live here you need it." With signed statement from Scmidt's grandson attesting to the provenance. Usual wear, lining a bit compromised, otherwise in very good condition.
