WI. Depere. Bank of Fox River Hydraulic Co. $5. April 1, 1839. (WI-120-G18). Two allegorical females with harp, upper right; America seated, lower left. This note is payable at the Philadelphia Loan Company in Philadelphia. Based on the fact that all banking activity essentially ceased in the 1838-51 period in Wisconsin, we can conclude from the availability of these notes that this entity did not completely redeem outstandings. Reportedly, proceeds of the note issuance were used for the acquisition of land; whatever the underlying economics, they did not, apparently, pan out. DTL. R-5. VF.
