WHITMAN, WALT
(1819 - 1892) American poet whose volume of verse Leaves of Grass was initially rejected by the public and cost him his job in the federal government. It was only in his later years that his genius became recognized world-wide. Boldly-penned good content A.L.S. on the verso of a postcard, Camden, Nov. 27, 1876 to Sidney H. Vines at Christ's College in Cambridge, England. In full: "Camden New Jersey U S America Nov 27 - I send by mail to-day to same address as this card, the two Vols. of L[eaves] of G[rass] TR - - please notify me (by postal card will do) soon as they reach you safely - Walt Whitman". Fine.
