WHITE MOVEMENT, RUSSIANS IN EXILE, ÉMIGRÉ BADGES. An extraordinary and unique Group of Nicholas J. Katenov (Taganrog, Russia November 28, 1898 – New London, CT, USA November 9, 1979), participant in the First Kuban Campaign who later served in the U.S. Merchant Marines. Katenov began his service as a White Russian Officer, serving in the First Kuban Campaign and with General Wrangel’s Army on the yacht ‘Lukul’. He later emigrated to the United States and served his new land as a member of the Merchant Marines during World War II. This unique grouping of a White Russian Officer/U.S. Merchant Marine includes Katenov’s: • First Kuban Campaign Badge, 1918. First Class (number 4246). On the original ribbon and with ribbon bar (which he may have worn on his U.S. uniform) • Commemorative Badge of General Wrangel’s Army personal yacht ‘Lukul’, 1920-1921. Two-loop pinback construction (no pin). Rudichenko 1.8.26. • World War II Victory Medal for the U.S. Merchant Marine • Atlantic War Zone Bare, U.S. Merchant Marines • Pacific War Zone Bar, U.S. Merchant Marines • Award Cards from the War Shipping Administration and the U.S. Dept. of Commerce for the Atlantic War Zone Bar, Mediterranean Middle East War Zone Bar, Pacific War Zone Bar, The Merchant Marine Combat Bar, and the Victory Medal • His U.S. Merchant Marines jacket and a photo of him wearing it in his study • Three books he authored based on his experiences. Two published in Paris, 1964 and 1968 and one in New York, 1977. The second Paris book is printing Number 2, while the New York tome is the first book printed (0001). Two of the books are inscribed to family members. Extremely interesting personal group. Problem free
