A trunk filled with career ephemera from Colonel Oscar E. Duttweiler, 1944 West Point graduate. This was the class in which General Eisenhower spoke, and from which his son was graduate. As a Lieutenant, Duttweiler was awarded the silver star as a member of the 87th Infantry, on 23 April 1945, for heroism while leading an attack across the Po river in Italy. A copy of his unit history documents this action. The archive includes his medals consisting of a Silver Star, Purple Heart, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, and campaign medals. Col. Duttweiler served from WWII to Vietnam. There is a letter written the day of the German surrender to his family, very personal and moving about his war experiences. He married an Italian woman. A pre war photo album of her and her family is in this grouping as well as a later photo album of them as a couple touring Europe. There are 3 other scrapbooks including his USMA scrapbook, and numerous letters home on West Point stationary. It includes V-mail , insignia any and all things associated with a decorated Academy graduate.
