WENN VOLKER STREITEN

German Poster (58" x 86"); Stone Litho, Country-of-Origin
Very Fine+ Folded; Artwork by R. Wolfth
Apollo, 1915

This beautiful country-of-origin German poster is a stone lithograph and features artwork by R. Wolfth. Printed on two separate sheets, the image depicts friends Henri Toussaint from France and Frederik Faber from Germany as they find themselves on opposite sides of a rising conflict. Folded as originally issued, this example appears to be unused and exhibits only light signs of wear along portions of a few outer edges. The colors are fresh and vibrant without any signs of fading.

Wenn Volker Streiten (When People Argue) is a German silent film anti-war drama released in Germany in 1915 and directed by Cesare Lupo. This was one of the first anti-war films of the early cinema, together with "Maudite soit la guerre (1915) by Alfred Machin. This film was already filmed in the first months of World War I and, as such, is regarded as an especially evocative pacifistic pamphlet. Despite a certain amount of bias towards the behavior of the German troops, the film staunchly advocated its pacifist ideals and showed audiences the horrors of war in original tinted colors.
