FLINTLOCK RIFLE. Cal. 58. NSN. Bbl. 40", tapered & slightly swamped oct. fitted w/ U-Notch rear & German silver blade front sights. Early style flintlock has long rnd. bodied plate, serpentine cock, semi waterproof pan, friction frizzen & feather spring w/ flame finial. Stock of nicely fiddle figured maple is brass mounted. Buttplate has early steeple type top tang. Trigger guard w/ rear little finger spur has foliate finial. Stock extends to muzzle & has some raised carving along ramrod channel, around bbl. tang, rear of lock & file decorated sideplate. Stock is pinned to bbl. & hickory ramrod is held by two faceted brass pipes & matching thimble. CONDITION: very fine, retaining over 90% original brown on iron parts as well as oil finish of stock which has some handling marks, mostly on butt. Consignor states this rifle was purchased from reenactor Bryce Turner who told him this was the rifle he used in the "Patriot" movie. (01-18771/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,800-2,500.
