RIFLE BY LARRY BRYNER. Cal. 36. NSN. The 34" octagon bbl. fitted w/ traditional U-notch rear & German silver blade front sights is engraved "L. Bryner" which is flanked by engraved scrolls on top flat. Small size flintlock has inset faceted pan, bridled friction frizzen & featherspring w/ spear finial. Plate & cock are also scroll engraved. Rifle is fitted w/ double set triggers & is German silver mounted. Mounts include faceted trigger guard w/ scroll at rear forming grip, fancy multi pierced patchbox w/ scroll embellishment on sides & finial, crescent buttplate w/ 5" heart pierced return which has patchbox release button at top, multi pierced scrolled sideplate & faceted ramrod pipes. German silver inlays include an oval on face of traditional fluted cheekpiece, another oval at top of grip engraved "MS", some other decorative inlays along toeline & as escutcheons for bbl. mounting pins. Mounts are engraved in same style as lock w/ strapwork & scroll along w/ some floral highlights. Stock itself extends to muzzle w/ 2" German silver cap & has a considerable amount of relief carving & well done moldings along bbl. channel & around lock & sideplate. Relief carved acanthus is behind top tang & large scrolling acanthus w/ floral highlights is around cheekpiece. More acanthus is behind thimble & flourishes are in front of lock. CONDITION: very fine, showing some artificial aging. Bbl. shows some light silvering & overall fine pitting. Stock is very fine w/ only a few minor marks & some freckling in its original oil finish. German silver is very nicely toned. Lock shows some speckling & will not cock. Bore is very good, fairly dark. A very attractive small rifle by an Ohio craftsman. (01-21664/MGM).
