WASHINGTON, GEORGE
(1732 - 1799) First President of the United States and commander of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. His franking signature ""Go: Washington"" on the lower left portion of address panel addressed to Brigadier James Clinton at Albany. The docket indicates that the letter once enclosed was dated Feb. 14, 1779 and notes that is concerning securing ""...communication between Schenectady & Fort Schuyler"". Fitzpatrick published one letter to Clinton with the same date written from Middlebrook, N.J., and noted that he had ""...received your letter of the 28th. Ultimo with its inclosure containing the final determination of the friendly Indians. The order for your ammunition has been sent forward from Philadelphia under cover to yourself; and I would suppose it come to hand before this time..."". Usual folds, one which only slightly affects the ""G"" in signature, minor loss from seal of which some wax remnants remain, otherwise very good condition.
