The First Washington Blues Festival was held on the campus of Howard University in Wash. D.C. in November 1970. The stellar cast of performers included Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Elizabeth Cotton, B.B. King, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Junior Wells, Big Boy Crudup, Furry Lewis Buddy Guy, Mance Lipscomb, Luther Allison, Sleepy John Estes, Richie Havens, and others. Included here: 1) fold-out poster/brochure w bios. and schedule, NRMT., 2) 4-pg. review which laments in part " ...he first blues festival to be sponsored by blacks...first to be held on a black college campus....sadly, only a small percentage of the blacks were in attendance, sprinkled amongst a predominantly white, hippy crowd who came to listen to the blues and dig the overall scene...", MT., 3-6) four unused bumper stickers, MT., and 7/8) two press passes belonging to noted photographer Joe Sia.
