WARREN PAGE PRESENTATION COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY

REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Colt. S# 38225SA. This special revolver was presented to the Shooting Editor of Field and Stream magazine Warren Page in July 1964. Then-President of Colt Firearms Paul Behnke made the presentation. The backstrap is inscribed “To WARREN PAGE FROM COLT’S PATENT FIREARMS MFG CO. JUNE 1964”. This 2nd generation revolver has a 7 1/2" barrel. Finish is blue and case colored with two piece walnut grips. This revolver is referred to as a “supreme rarity” on page 444 of “The Book of Colt Engraving” by R. L. Wilson. “The Post War Colt Single Action Revolver” by Don Wilkerson features the revolver on page 156.
Warren Page, known as “Lefty” to many, was a two-term President of the Camp Fire Club of America which is a select organization whose mission is to “promote wildlife and habitat conservation”. In a letter to Don Wilkerson, R.L. Wilson impresses why he had an “attachment” to this particular SAA. Wilson describes how he first met Warren in the 1960’s while he was employed at the Colt company. Wilson later details how he intended to go on an African safari as part of his research for Theodore Roosevelt Outdoorsman. Wilson then learned that Warren had been on about 15 African safaris and had exceptional connections to make Wilson’s first trip “a truly fantastic experience, one that I shall cherish the rest of my life”. Upon Wilson’s return Warren nominated Wilson for membership in the Camp Fire Club, joining members such as Theodore Roosevelt, Laurence Rockefeller Daniel Carter Beard and Peter Benchley to mention a few.
