Parson Fine Art, Taos, New Mexico;<BR>Amelia White;<BR>School of American Research Collection, deaccessioned 1999.<BR><BR>California painter Warren Rollins studied under Virgil Williams at the San Francisco School of Design, eventually becoming the Associate Director of the school. His work is based on personal travel throughout the western United States, extensively in New Mexico. Rollins's <I>oeuvre</B></I> is comprised largely of Native American scenes. The artist's premier exhibition was in Santa Fe in 1910. In 1917, his "Indian" scenes became quite popular, and subsequently the Santa Fe Railroad provided the artist with a studio in El Tovar to paint the Grand Canyon.<BR><I><BR>Campfire Chat</B></I> portrays an intimate fireside conversation between two young men. Rollins depicts their environment in great detail--textured adobe walls, Navajo blanket, concho belts--with loose brushstrokes.
